  2. Diabetes occurs when your blood sugar or blood glucose is too high.
  3. Our body needs energy, the food you eat is the main source of energy & blood sugar.
  4. A normal amount of blood sugar is needed to the body for getting energy.
  5. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that helps glucose or sugar from your food get into your cells to be used for energy.
  6. When your body doesn’t make enough or any insulin or doesn’t use insulin well then glucose stays in your blood and doesn’t reach your cells & shows a significant rise in your blood sugar levels.
  7. There are 3 most common types of diabetes: – type1, type2 and gestational diabetes.
  8. Type1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin. Your immune system attacks and destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. This type of diabetes is mainly diagnosed in children and adults. To stay healthy, people with type1 diabetes need to take insulin every day.
  9. Type2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. This type of diabetes occurs mostly in old–aged and older people. In type2 diabetes, your body does not make or use insulin well.

10. One other type of diabetes is gestational diabetes. It develops in some women during their pregnancy & most of the time it goes away after the baby is born.
