Mahatma Gandhi is  known as the “father of the nation” so people fondly call him Bapu. Also, he was a great role model and a freedom fighter of India.

Early life of Mahatma Gandhi

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2nd , 1869 , at Porbandar in the state of Gujarat, India.His father, Karamchand Gandhi was Diwan of Porbander. His mother, Putlibai was a very religious person.

 His childhood was surrounded by religious as well as political atmosphere due to his parents. He followed Vaishnavism religion and used to go to temples.  Gandhi ji was sent to school at the age of seven. He was a very introvert student in school but also honest and sincere.

He married at the age of thirteen to Kasturba in 1889. After passing his matriculation exam in 1887, he traveled to London to study law in University of London. Gandhiji completed his law and came back to India.

Mahatma Gandhi’s journey in South Africa against racism

He started his career as a lawer. But his real journey started in South Africa in 1893. In South Africa, he fought against racism. He found the white men ill treating the dark Indians there. He also faced humiliation and torture there.

Once, he was travelling in a first class compartment of a train. Even after having a ticket, he was stopped to travel in that first class compartment and was punished for it as he was thrown out of the train. Gandhiji fought against this unfair and inhuman treatment. He followed Satyagraha there and became successful.

Mahatma Gandhi’s journey in India

He returned in India in 1915 and also discovered same condition of India by the Britishers.

He started Satyagraha in Champaran. In 1930, he started Dandi March against the tax on salt with his followers and became successful. He also started Non-co-operation movement in 1930 and the Quit India Movement in 1942. He coordinated with all political groups with in India that time.

Now all the countrymen were with him to get freedom from British Rulers. He went Jail many times. At last, after a constant efforts by India under the leadership of Gandhiji, India got  freedom on 15th August,1947.

Gandhiji was a very simple living and a modest person. Throughout his life, he followed “Simple living, high thinking”. His major ideologies are  Non violence(Ahinsa), truth(Satya) and love to all mankind. He was a reformer as well as a great influencer.

He died when an Indian- Nathu Ram Godse shot him on 30th January 1948. Mahatma Gandhi is remembered not only in India but all around the world for his major virtues.
