Lockdown is a need for people to stay where they are, due to specific risks they could cause to themselves or to others if they move freely. In simple words, we can say โstay at homeโ.
A lockdown can also be used to protect people.
A full lockdown means that people must stay where they are and may not enter or exit a building or rooms within it.
Covid 19 – lockdown in India
India faced lockdown when the number of confirmed positive coronavirus cases were approximately 500.
On 24th March 2020, the government of India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s order, announced a nationwide lockdown for 21 days, as a preventive measure against the Covid-19 pandemic in India.
The Covid-19 pandemic in India is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 which originated from China caused by severe acute respiration syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
The first case of Covid-19 in India was reported on 30 January 2020.

22nd March 2020 – 14 hours voluntary public curfew

The PM again extended the nationwide lockdown for two weeks starting from 4th May 2020 to 17th May 2020.

Millions of migrant workers had to deal with the loss of income, food shortage and uncertainty about their future.
Around 14 crore Indians lost employment during the lockdown.
More than 45% households across the nation reported an income drop as compared to the previous year.
India’s growth in the fiscal year 2020 went down to 3.1%. The Indian economy was expected to lose over rupees 32000 crore every day. During the first 20 days of complete lockdown.
