Recently on 13th December 2021, the Grand Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kashi Vishwanath Dham is an approximately Rs.900 – crore project. It has a 400 meter long and 75 – meter wide corridor that will connect the main Kashi Vishwanath temple with three main ghats of Ganga.
The aim of the Kashi Vishwanath temple corridor project is to facilitate pilgrims. It will ensure easy movement of pilgrims, devotees, and tourists between the ghats and the temple. Now they had not to pass through congested streets to reach the temple.
- The Kashi Vishwanath temple is an ancient and one of the most famous Hindu temples.
- It is located in Vishwanath Gali of Varanasi Uttar Pradesh in India.
- This Hindu temple is dedicated to lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas or Jyotirlingams, the holiest of Shiva temples.
- Shri Vishwanath and vishweshwara, (the main deity) is the Lord of the Universe.Vishveshvara is Vishva, Ishvara is lord, one who has dominion.
- This temple is demolished many times, in 1194 CE by Mohammad Ghori, 1505 – 1515 CE by Sikandar Lodi and in 1669 CE – by Aurangzeb.
- The current structure of the temple was built by the Maratha ruler, Ahilya Bai Holkar in the year 1780.
- The temple is ancient and also mentioned in the Puranas.
- The temple complex consists of a series of small shrines in Vishwanatha gali, near thr river.The linga of the main deity at the shrine is 60 cm tall and 90 cm in circumference.
- There are also small temples in the complex like Kala Bhawan, Kartikey, Vishnu, Ganesha, Shani, Shiva and Parvati .
- Approximately 3000 visitors, visit the temple every day.
