Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease. It is caused by a parasite that infects a certain type of mosquito which feeds on humans. Four kinds of malaria parasites are Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium Vivax, Plasmodium Ovale, and Plasmodium malaria.

  1.  World Malaria Day was first started in 2007 and is observed on 25th April every year all over the World.
  2.  It is the day that makes people more aware of the cause of Malaria Disease, its prevention and treatment.
  3.  Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease that is caused by single-celled microorganism of the Plasmodium group. It spreads through bites of infected Female Anopheles mosquitoes.
  4.  The Symptoms of Malaria are fever, tiredness, vomiting and headaches. It can also cause seizures, yellow skin, coma or death in severe cases.
  5.  On World Malaria Day Government and Non-Government organizations come together to raise awareness among people that what malaria is and how can we prevent it to spread.
  6. Malaria is diagnosed by the microscopic examination of blood smears or films and with antigen-based rapid diagnostic tests.
  7. We can reduce the malaria disease by following some prevention methods like use of the mosquito nets, insect repellents, spraying insecticides and not stagnating water around us. This controls the growth of mosquitoes and prevents mosquito bites.
  8. There is no vaccination available for malaria and the only treatment of malaria is a combination of anti-malarial medications.
  9. World Malaria Day highlights for continuous investment and commitment for Malaria Prevention control.
  10. The theme of World malaria day for the year 2021 was ’Reaching the Zero Malaria target’.
